New Star in the World of Gastronomy “Estrellas”

Melia Dubai, Spanish group Melia Hotels today announced that it will introduce a new rooftop restaurant and bar, “Estrellas Skyline Lounge.” “Estrellas” means “stars” in Spanish will officially open on the 1st of April, 2015.

Designed by prominent Italian architect, Marco Mangili, Estrellas Skyline décor is inspired by the city lights and the stars that illuminate the famous skyline of Dubai. Sophisticated and vibrant it will feature an indoor restaurant, a stylish pool lounge and a dance floor. Estrellas will serve an exciting mix of gourmet Mediterranean, Indian and Arabic cuisine as well as molecular gastronomy-inspired dishes. Open all days and until early hours; Estrellas will host a resident as well as international DJ(s).

“I am excited about the launch of our new lounge, Estrellas Skyline, which will offer guests an exceptional dining experience with great food against a stunning ambience. An all day Mexican celebration – Ariba Ariba!

Fuego a contemporary Mexican restaurant located at Souk Al Bahar has planned an all day pre celebration for Mexican Independence day. The event will take place this 13th September, 2014.

From 11 to 5:00pm – Promoting Mexican culture & tradition; Fuego will host a small Mexican Mercado (Bazaar) featuring art & handicraft, street food stalls & free giveaways. The entry is free and open to all.

Come evening (8:00 to 12 midnight) – Fuego will go full out to end the celebration with a fun filled party. Mexican Chef’s Theatre in Dubai

Fuego, a Mexican restaurant and bar is hosting an exclusive cooking event for food lovers and cultural explorers, with the launch of Chef’s Theatre. Guests can catch Fuego’s Head Chef, Jose Manuel and his culinary team in the act whilst enjoying the bold and authentic flavours of Mexico. The sessions are available for groups of three people or more and provide one-on-one interaction with the chef; learning best cooking practices and understand Mexican culture and heritage

There is a session for little ones also, who have the opportunity to know a little about Mexico. Fuego offers a special Kids Play session where children learn essential kitchen techniques and fun facts about the country whilst munching on their favourite finger food.

Additionally, Fuego has also crafted a special mixology session exploring traditional Mexican beverages curated by in house Master Mixologist, Eugenio Alvorez.

All sessions include conversations with the Chef or Mixologist, tips and the finest culinary techniques.

ZEETEX opens its signature Café Zee in UAE

Café Zee”, ZEETEX’s signature café, opened its first outlet in the Middle East in conjunction with its distributor, Formula Tires. Worldwide; following its first cafe in Naples, Italy, last year. For every café that ZEETEX opens at its distributor’s premises, UAE based ZAFCO- the company that operates the ZEETEX auto parts brand globally- sponsors the education of 100 needy children.

Zafar Jafri, Senior Vice President- Sales at ZAFCO, said: “With Café Zee we strive to create a relaxed atmosphere at ZEETEX dealerships so that getting your car serviced can be a pleasant experience as you enjoy complimentary coffee and snacks at our café. We plan to open two more Café Zee outlets in the Middle East by the end of this year and gradually expand the presence to all countries we operate in. For every café we open, we sponsor the education of 100 underprivileged children through the non-profit organization called ‘Smile’ based in India.”

The café was designed by Italian designer Stefano Cavacelli.

According to Mostafa Tahiri, Managing Director of Formula Tyres, “We are excited to be part of the Zee Café project that helps to educate children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Also the café will be a value addition for our customers who can now sit back and enjoy snacks and beverages at the café as our mechanics work on their vehicle.”

Cinco de Mayo celebrations at Fuego

Mexico fever comes to Souk al Bahar on the 5th of May, to celebrate – Cinco de Mayo. Guests are encouraged to don their party hats and celebrate this significant period of Mexican history at Fuego. Head Chef Jose Manuel has taken inspiration from his favourite childhood dishes to develop a special menu that will be available at the event.

Cinco de Mayo has been designed with the Fuego fans in mind and promises to offer a night to remember for both tourists and the local community alike. The set party menu offers an array of free flowing delicacies to diners all night, including a combination of traditional Mexican tapas and key Fuego favourites such as Mexican style seafood and prime Angus beef. Signature desserts such as the flan de coco and the famous Fuego churroz will also be served.

Of this exclusive menu, Executive Head Chef Jose Morales expressed his excitement, “Cinco de Mayo is a huge festival in Mexico and we wanted to celebrate it this year with equal zest and fervour here at Fuego. We will have our special party menu, where diners can enjoy unlimited food flowing freely during the event.”

The special menu is being offered only on the 5th of May from 8:00 pm onwards, which includes festive punches and unlimited house beverages.

Celebrate ‘Pascua’ with an authentic afternoon of Mexican food and drinks

Fuego, Souk Al Bahar’s hottest Mexican restaurant announces their Easter menu serving a variety of traditional specialities, carefully crafted for this special period. Pascua –  which literally translates into Easter, is a joyous period in Mexico – a time for the whole family to come together, eat, drink and be merry.

This Easter menu available for Easter Sunday will be a set-menu with a wide variety of choices available. To complement each dish, Agave expert Eugenio has carefully paired selected traditional Mexican beverages for an ultimate taste experience. The meal will  commence with a light chipotle infused cream of corn soup, served with breads and garnish.
Guests will then move onto starters, where diners will have the choice of prawns in tangy tamarind and mango sauce, or pastry of beef chorizo with potatoes. For the mains, daring guests can opt for the ox tongue in tomatillo sauce whilst guests with a rich palate could opt for the prawns heirlooms, oven cooked with cheese and wild mushroom. Also on the menu is
chicken breast served Milanese style or the ultimate Mexican delicacy – stuffed and baked  poblano chillies. Finally, to end on a happy and sweet note, Chef Jose will be offering  Mexican style cheese cake or the all-time favourite molten chocolate lava cake.

This special menu is being offered only on Easter Sunday, 20th April and is priced at AED 299 per person inclusive of 3 selected beverages. Kids under the age of 10 eat free and get a surprise Easter gift.

Innovo Specialty Foods JLT set to create largest rice hub in MENA region

H.H. Prince Mishaal bin Abdullah bin Turki bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud along with global private investor V Raman Kumar have engaged in a joint venture with India’s innovative rice producer, LEAF India (Lakshmi Energy and Foods Ltd), to create the MENA region’s largest hub for rice storage and distribution.

The JV, Innovo Specialty Foods JLT, created by an investment of AED 100 million, aims to set up a storage, processing, polishing and packaging facility with a capacity of over 100,000 tonnes of basmati rice during 2014. The ambitious plans will be delivered through Pan Gulf Foods and Industries FZ CO from the company’s Jebel Ali warehouse, which has been set in joint ownership, by H.H. Prince Mishaal, Mr V. Raman Kumar and LEAF India.

Innovo will market and distribute basmati rice processed and packed by Pan Gulf Food and Industries exclusively across the Middle East and North Africa. Innovo aims to sell 80 per cent of its products through large trade channel partners/ importers/ distributors. The balance will be distributed to wholesale/retail outlets within the GCC on a cash and carry basis from its JAFZA warehouse.

The shared vision of making Dubai a regional basmati rice hub has inspired H.H. Prince Mishaal,  V. Raman Kumar and LEAF India’s B.S.Uppal to create a conglomerate for storing, processing, packaging and distributing basmati rice in the Middle East region.

V. Raman Kumar commented: “Food security is clearly an immediate priority for the UAE and wider Middle East. The region is entering a new period of economic growth underpinned by a burgeoning population with a high dependence on imported food.

“This venture promises to add great value to strategies being discussed between Government and policy-makers at the World Food Security Summit this week. Our concept idea of creating this rice hub will aim to lend to and deliver food security objectives in the UAE. “

Currently, 20% of all UAE imports comprise of food items and 90% of food is imported but there are only 3 months of basic food items stored, so food security cover is not fit for purpose for the rapidly growing economy.

V Raman Kumar adds: “You would not think of Gulf states as a place where access to food was difficult as they have some of the highest GDPs in the world and they can easily meet their food needs but the Gulf’s geographical location and lack of water and arable land makes it difficult to produce an abundance of food. Importing up to 90 per cent of their food makes them extremely vulnerable

“The 100,000 tonnes of basmati rice capacity that we will create in Jebel Ali will be a giant step for this region to strengthen its food security strategy. We look to take this strategy to Saudi Arabia as well in the near future.  We believe that execution of a core food security strategy is essential to provide a sustainable growth platform.”

The fine, long grained, fragrant basmati rice is the leading imported food item into the Middle East. 70 per cent of world’s supply of basmati rice comes from India alone. The ever increasing demand for basmati rice has been primarily driven by Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iran, Iraq and GCC countries accounting for over 4 million tons of basmati rice consumption every year.
